Hi, I’m Anthony I am just an average guy with an average life. I currently live in Toowoomba a small city about 2 hours drive from Brisbane qld Australia. This is My Coding Journey.
I have worked in aged care for the past 4 years and I have a Love/Hate relationship with the industry. I love helping people and putting a smile on someone’s face that has had their world swept out from underneath them. Imagine being told you can’t return to your house ever again, to the place you have lived in for many years, raised your children in, made those four walls into a Home for you and your family. It is something i have seen on an almost daily basis and I can’t hack it any longer there has to be more i can do…

It all started about 6ish months ago i was struggling at work a combination of a lack of support from management, dealing with sickness and death on a daily basis and a feeling of being unfulfilled in my career, I knew i had to get out.

Now i have always known i wanted to do something within the the Tech dev industry but until recently i hadn’t really known what that was.

My passion for development started when i was about 13 i was introduced to a program called Game maker it was a 2D game engine with it’s own scripting language (GML — Game Maker Language) the first time i got a sprite to appear on the screen and move around at just the press of a button, i thought i was a Genius, i could do and achieve anything that was until my Maths teacher Mr White (Head of the Math’s and IT department’s) ripped that idea out of my head by not allowing me into the Computer programming class at school (“You won’t be able to keep up in this class, you need to be good with mathematics” — Mr White). It burst my bubble super quick and as a hormonal teen boy it really hurt.
I was well and truly out of school about 25 before i tried again,
I had heard about the Unreal Engine or UDK as it was known while researching how to develop maps for Unreal Tournament (that game was Epic). I downloaded the engine and i was hooked for about 2 years I spent a majority of my spare time tinkering with with making 3D maps using a material engine inside of UDK, I spent many hours learning the scripting language (unrealscript) and a system called Kismet which was almost a drag and drop code editor and various other pieces of software including 3DS Max, Blender, Maya, Photoshop and many others in an attempt to move into the game dev world. In the end I gave up on this idea too.

In 2015 i started work in the aged care industry and 4 years later I found what i wanted to do with my life, how i can still help people beyond what i could achieve in an aged care centre. I want to become a developer within the medical field. To create applications to help doctors and nursing staff with diagnosis and treatment of injuries and wounds. Work on a groundbreaking piece of technology something like a nanobot that is controlled by AI to destroy cancer cells or fight dementia using some other piece of tech we haven’t thought about yet. This is my passion, This is what i want to do and will strive to achieve with my life.

So this is where we are today, I have just started My Coding Journey with Coder Academy in Brisbane and so far they are amazing. I am participating in a 10 month Bootcamp that ends in a Diploma of Information Technology and an Internship with a reputable company.

I had online orientation today with not only the Staff and Junior devs from Brisbane but Sydney and Melbourne as well. Now normally this would be done at a Coder Academy facility in each city however the Coronavirus changed things up for us this year, so for the foreseeable future it will be a remote bootcamp.

I am really excited to get started with this new adventure and will continue to write about my experience with Coder Academy.
